“Great hospitality!” ★★★★★
I am a few months behind time to write this review of « Une Chambre a Montmarte » where I stayed for three nights. Staying there was an unique experience though I have been to Paris a few times.
Claire, the owner, was particularly helpful in answering my queries even before I departed for Paris. She gave clear directions from the airport to her place. The room is known for its magical view of Paris, and being situated at hilly Montmarte (which I love very much), I was prepared to climb flights of steps. But even with a heavy and bulky luggage, it wasn’t too much of a trouble for me to reach the destination. But if you can, avoid luggage bags, and use the funicular if you have heavy luggage.
The room was set at the top level of an old Parisian building. The building itself comes with a lovely interior courtyard (garden) and flights of cranky stairs – character of an old Parisian apartment. There is no light at the stairs to the top floor at night (at least I can’t locate any). So a torchlight or your phone’s light will be helpful.
Finding our way to the metro was easy for us. Walk down the slope from the main door and turn right along the road, it’s about 10 min brisk walk to the Abbesses metro station. Along the way, there are interesting shops, restaurants and boulangerie. Don’t miss out the ‘Wall of I love you’ next to the metro station’s entrance. I also felt safe walking from the metro station to the room late at night (10 pm +).
Apart from the great view of Paris from the room, the room itself was very nicely decorated. Claire took great effort to prepare everything, including the breakfast in matching plates and crockery. She was so hospitable and enthusiastic in meeting us. I would return to her place.
